MUMBAI: Ajay Thakur has been named the recipient of the first TOISA Kabaddi Player of the Year Award during the Mahindra Scorpio Times of India Sports Awards function in Mumbai.
The second edition of TOISA, which reward the best of Indian sport in 2016 and celebrate the future and golden past of the country's athletes, included kabaddi as it was a stellar year for the sport with India winning the World Cup in Ahmedabad.
Ajay top-scored with 12 points during the win over Iran in the final, in addition to effecting two outs that turned the match. He was voted Man of the Tournament during the World Cup, for being the top points-scorer (68) and top raider.
The other nominee in the category was
Anup Kumar, who captained India to the Kabaddi World Cup title and led U Mumba to the final of the Pro Kabaddi League.
