Luizinho flays BJP stand on Modi issue

panaji: the former leader of opposition, mr luizinho faleiro, has severely criticised the central bharatiya janata party (bjp) leadership for protecting gujarat chief minister mr narendra modi, “the real culprit behind violence in that state�. mr faleiro said that despite indictment of the modi government by the national human rights commission (nhrc) and the national minorities commission for the violence the prime minister chose to repose faith in the gujarat chief minister, who he said was responsible for inhuman, insensitive acts of atrocities on minorities.describing the bjp’s decision, to retain mr modi, as objectionable and painful at its national executive meeting in goa, the cradle of secularism, the land of communal harmony and religious amity, he said that his party would intensify the movement for ouster of mr modi. addressing a press conference at the congress house today, he also said that even the allies of the bjp at the centre have called for removal of mr modi but the prime minister chose to ignore their demand and rewarded mr modi, for the atrocities he abetted on minority community, even as gujarat continued to burn. mr faleiro further said that the prime minister shed crocodile’s tears to fool the people when he visited gujarat aftermath the violence there and his approval of mr modi’s actions showed that he was also in league with the extremist elements in his party, who selectively targetted the muslims of gujarat. the former opposition leader also said that it was tragic that the bjp was attempting to sow the seeds of hatred by its decision protecting mr modi from the land of peace and communal harmony and referred to the statement of mr vajpayee, at the public meeting at campal yesterday, wherein he targetted muslims. he also said that the bjp and the prime minister by towing the line of hard-core fascists elements in the sangh parivar, like dr pravin togadia — who called for creation of hindu ghaznis, have exposed their true culture which smacked of hatred, destruction and intolerance. mr faleiro said that he could see a conspiracy in the bjp’s national executive decision with regards to mr modi and added that the bjp was trying to impose gujarat like situation in the state using the same modus operandi of injecting the venom of communalism and dividing the society on communal lines. he also said that it was proved time and again that the bjp and its members did not have faith in democracy, constitution and secularism have been trampled upon by them at every available opportunity so also other democratic institutions including the assemblies. later in the evening, mr nirmala sawant, the president of the goa pradesh congress committee (gpcc) told reporters that she was informed that old people were brought to the bjp rally yesterday promising that the cheques under dayanand social security scheme (dsss) would be disbursed to them. she also said that she has received complaint that police personnel stationed at campal also forced those people who had come for practice at various sports venues at campal to attend the rally addressed by the prime minister. she also said that hundreds of buses were taken off the road to carry the people for the rally putting normal commuters to great hardship. ms sawant further said that the gujarat government could have done well by instituting an enquiry by appointing a commission to find the truth behind the godhra carnage. she further said that fire cannot douse fire as such violence was not the answer to godhra carnage. the gpcc president also said that the promises made by the prime minister will not fetch the bjp votes in the state as has been the case with uttar pradesh, where the people were promised the similar way.
