Uttar Pradesh launches India’s first jungle safari Vistadome train; know all about it

Nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts, it’s time to rejoice! In a bid to promote eco-tourism, the Uttar Pradesh government along with Indian Railways has introduced India’s first Vistadome jungle safari train service. This initiative will connect the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary with the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve. And passengers will get a unique opportunity to experience the state’s rich biodiversity in comfort and style.

The Vistadome coaches of the train are designed to increase the fun of this green sojourn. With large glass windows, transparent rooftops, and rotating seats, these coaches offer sweeping views of lush forests, wetlands, and wildlife. Keep your eyes open for a variety of birds and animals in their natural habitat, all from the comfort of the train. This service currently operates on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays).

The Vistadome safari train operates on the Bichia to Mailani Tourist Passenger route (Train No. 52259/52260). The 107-kilometer journey takes around 4 hours and 25 minutes. The fare is highly affordable at just INR 275 per person for the Katarniaghat to Dudhwa stretch.
Outbound Journey: Departs Bichia at 11:45 AM and arrives Mailani at 4:10 PM.
Return Journey: Leaves Mailani at 6:05 AM, reaching Bichia at 10:30 AM. The train stops at nine stations, including Dudhwa, Palia Kalan, and Bhira Kheri.

This initiative is part of the broader “One Destination, Three Forests” theme being developed by the state’s Eco Tourism Board. It aims to integrate Dudhwa National Park, Katarniaghat, and Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary into a single, cohesive tourism experience.

To make the experience more accessible, the Eco Tourism Development Board is also working on special travel packages from Lucknow to Katarniaghat, with potential subsidies in the pipeline. This would ease connectivity for domestic and international tourists alike.

Beyond the tourism appeal, this Vistadome service is expected to boost the regional economy. It encourages participation from local homestays, resorts, and travel agencies, creating new job opportunities and promoting sustainable tourism in forest-adjacent communities.
