It's true that Shimla is a timeless beauty. This hill station captivates visitors with its mist-covered mountains, architectural marvels, and serene ambiance. From bustling promenades to tranquil getaways, Shimla offers a variety of experiences that leave travellers spellbound. Shimla's timeless charm lies in its ability to blend modern amenities with its rich heritage and natural splendor.

2/10

The Ridge

The Ridge is the focal point of Shimla, a spacious open area that serves as a social, cultural, and historical hub. It’s where locals and tourists gather to soak in the panoramic views of the majestic Himalayan ranges. Flanked by quaint colonial buildings, this iconic spot features the Christ Church, a neo-Gothic structure that’s over 150 years old and one of Shimla’s most photographed landmarks.

3/10

Mall Road

Mall Road is more than just a shopping street; it’s the soul of Shimla’s social life. Visitors can shop for Himachali woolens, handcrafted jewelry, and souvenirs while savoring local delicacies like steaming momos and Himachali siddu. The traffic-free zone makes it perfect for leisurely strolls, with captivating views of the mountains enhancing the experience.

4/10

Jakhoo Temple

Standing atop Jakhoo Hill, the highest point in Shimla, the Jakhoo Temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. This spiritual site is home to a towering 108-foot statue of the deity, visible from miles away. A trek to the temple is an adventure in itself, offering breathtaking vistas of the surrounding valleys and dense forests.

5/10

The Toy Train, Shimla

The Kalka-Shimla Railway is a must-try experience for visitors. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this narrow-gauge railway connects Kalka to Shimla through a mesmerizing journey of over 100 tunnels and 800 bridges. The train chugs through picturesque landscapes of pine-covered hills, serene villages, and vibrant flower-laden meadows.

6/10

Kufri

Situated just 16 kilometres from Shimla, Kufri is a haven for adventure seekers and nature enthusiasts. Known for its snow-covered slopes during winter, Kufri is the perfect spot for skiing, snowboarding, and sledding. If you find Shimla a tad busy, head to Kufri.

7/10

Viceregal Lodge, Shimla

The Viceregal Lodge, also known as Rashtrapati Niwas, is an architectural gem steeped in history. This iconic landmark was built in 1888, and it served as the summer residence of British Viceroys. Now, the Viceregal Lodge is home to the Indian Institute of Advanced Study. This was the place where the final draft of the Indian independence and partition plans was discussed, a meeting which took place between Lord Mountbatten, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel, and Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

8/10

Chadwick Falls

The cascading water plummets from a height of 86 meters, creating a refreshing spectacle that’s both tranquil and invigorating. Monsoon is the best time to visit, as the falls swell to their full glory. Surrounded by nature’s untouched beauty, Chadwick Falls is a haven for trekkers, photographers, and those seeking solitude.

9/10

Local villages

The nearby villages are some of the best places you will visit in North India. These villages offer visitors a glimpse into authentic Himachali life. Quaint villages like Mashobra, Fagu, and Narkanda are perfect places for a quiet getaway. They are serene retreats far away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

10/10

Shimla’s winter wonderland

During winter, Shimla dons a white mantle of snow, turning the city into a fairytale setting. From snowball fights to ice skating at the open-air rink, the season is full of activities for both locals and tourists. The Ridge, Mall Road, and surrounding areas look stunning under a layer of snow.
