UK’s new ETA rule: Will it affect Indian travellers?
Starting April 2, 2025, most travellers visiting the United Kingdom will be required to obtain UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). As per the reports, those from visa-exempt European countries, including EU citizens, will need to follow this process, which has been brought into place to enhance border security and streamline entry processes. The UK ETA Mobile App lets candidates scan their passport, snap a selfie, and respond to a few questions. You can download the apps from App Store and Google Play store, after which one needs to follow the process, which is simple and quick.

The application fee is £10, payable via credit card, debit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. Each traveler, including children and infants, must have their own ETA.

Irish citizens: Due to the Common Travel Area agreement, Irish nationals do not require an ETA to enter the UK.
UK residents: Those holding valid UK visas or residency permits are also exempt.

Validity and processing time
Once approved, the ETA is valid for two years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. It permits multiple visits to the UK, with each stay lasting up to six months.
