MEA issues advisory for Indians in Nepal amid GenZ protests

In a statement, the MEA said: “We are closely monitoring the developments in Nepal since yesterday and are deeply saddened by the loss of many young lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased. We also wish speedy recovery for those who were injured.”
Reiterating India’s position as a long-standing partner of Nepal, the Ministry added: “As a close friend and neighbour, we hope that all concerned will exercise restraint and address any issues through peaceful means and dialogue.”
Highlighting the security situation, the MEA noted that curfews had been imposed in several areas: “We have also taken note that authorities have imposed curfews in Kathmandu and several other cities of Nepal. Indian nationals in Nepal are advised to exercise caution and adhere to the steps and guidelines issued by the Nepali authorities.”

The advisory comes amid escalating protests that have swept across Nepal in recent days. Despite the government’s decision to lift its temporary social media ban, demonstrations resumed, intensifying tensions across major cities.
Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced an investigation into the violent unrest. According to reports, the protests have already resulted in the deaths of at least 18 people and left more than 250 injured. The violence has drawn widespread concern within Nepal and from its international partners, including India.
