IndiGo issues travel advisory: Fog and low visibility conditions to impact flight operations in North and East India
On the late night of Tuesday, IndiGo issued a travel advisory mentioning issues caused by low visibility because of dense winter fog. It said that the current situation is likely to impact flight operations across parts of North and East India. The advisory is released for those scheduled to fly during the early morning hours on 17 December. The airline has urged them to rely only on official updates available on their website and mobile app for the real-time information.
In an advisory shared on its official handle (X), IndiGo said:
“As the morning approaches under misty winter skies, fog is predicted across parts of North and East India, which may lead to reduced visibility and a slower pace of flight movements during the early hours. In the interest of safety, some flights may experience delays or adjustments.”
The airline cited misty winter skies, foggy weather and reduced visibility conditions for potential delays. These conditions may slow down flight movements, especially during early morning hours and could result in delays or operational adjustments.
In its official post, the airline also stated that fog is predicted across parts of North and East India. So expect delays and a slower pace of flight movements. It also said that some flights may experience delays or adjustments.
IndiGo also emphasised that safety is their top priority and assured passengers that its ground and operations teams are ready to handle the situation. As per the airline, teams across airports are working in close coordination to manage schedules, assist customers, and ensure a smooth flow of operations.
“Our teams across airports are fully prepared and working in close coordination to manage schedules smoothly, assist customers, and maintain a steady flow of operations.”
The advisory also highlighted that the foggy conditions may also affect road traffic and commuting can take time. Because of reduced visibility, the passengers are advised to take buffer time and check flight status before moving out of the house. In view of this, IndiGo has advised travellers, especially those with early morning flights, to plan their journeys with additional buffer time.
“Foggy conditions may also impact road traffic, with slower movement and longer travel times expected while commuting to the airport. Customers travelling early are advised to plan with additional buffer time and check the latest flight status on our website or app before leaving home http://t.co/EeFsEy9IJY”
It is no news that aviation operations remain mostly affected during winter months (December and January). It is because of fog and low visibility conditions. The North Indian cities remain mostly affected with this. Such weather can affect take-offs and landings, even at airports equipped with advanced landing systems, depending on the intensity and duration of fog.
IndiGo further thanked and reassured passengers. It said that visibility is expected to improve as the day progresses. “Thank you for your patience and continued trust as we work steadily through the early hours, with visibility expected to improve as the day progresses.”
Meanwhile, passengers are advised to stay informed and keep a constant check on their flight updates. IndiGo has reiterated that all official information regarding flight status, delays, or changes should be checked only through its website or mobile app to avoid misinformation.
