Dubai Airports update: More than 1,140 flights operated in 84 hours to clear passenger backlog; what travellers need to know
Dubai Airports shared an update on social media X to inform the world that both Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) operated more than 1,140 flights over the past 84 hours between March 2 and March 5. It is the second week of the regional tensions in the Middle East and air travel remains disrupted amid all this.
The update further said, around 500 outbound flights departed from Dubai airports, providing around 105,000 seats to passengers travelling to over 80 countries across the globe. Authorities said the number of flights continues to rise rapidly as airlines add more services to their schedules.
The update was shared on March 6 around noon. The airports at Dubai are gradually restoring connectivity with authorities confirming to help travellers continue their journeys home.
The update reads,
“Over the past 84 hours, more than 1,140 flights have been facilitated at @DXB and DWC to help travellers return home. During the period 2nd-5th March, more than 500 flights have departed DXB and DWC, providing 105,000 outbound seats to more than 80 countries and the number continues to increase dramatically every day. We are adding more and more flights to our schedule every day. Please continue to check the status of your flight with your airline.”
Dubai Airports said the surge in flights is a well coordinated effort by airlines and airport authorities. All this, to send stranded passengers home. Thousands of travellers had been stranded or forced to change their plans after closures of the airspaces. It disrupted aviation across parts of the Middle East, including Dubai and Doha following the US‑Israel–Iran conflict.
On the other hand, Dubai Media Office took to X and informed,
“Dubai authorities have confirmed that a minor incident resulting from the fall of debris after an interception has been successfully contained. No injuries have been reported. Authorities have also denied reports circulating on social media regarding any incidents at Dubai International Airport.”
Meanwhile, Dubai Airports advices travellers:
Not to travel to DXB or DWC unless they have a confirmed booking or departure time provided by their airline.
Check flight status directly with airlines before heading to the airport considering the current situation.
Major carriers based in the UAE, including Emirates, flydubai and Etihad Airways, have been operating limited services. The airlines are prioritising those with previously cancelled or disrupted bookings. Over the past several days, airports at Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah have managed to operate flights under strict safety measures.
As of now, travellers are advised to stay updated through official airline channels only.
