The long-awaited Vande Bharat Express connecting Jammu and Srinagar is set to revolutionise rail travel in the region. Running on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), this state-of-the-art train will provide a world-class travel experience. The train, operated by the Northern Railway zone, marks the third Vande Bharat service in the region, following the success of two routes connecting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) with Delhi.
Route and other information
Over 150 km will be covered by the new Vande Bharat Express between Srinagar and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra. The train is anticipated to start commercial operations in February 2025 and will stand out thanks to its stylish orange-and-grey appearance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is anticipated to flag off the inaugural journey in the first week of February, though the exact date and time are still pending confirmation by the Railway Board.

The Vande Bharat Express will offer a fast and comfortable journey, reducing travel time significantly. With a travel duration of just 2 hours and 30 minutes, the train will operate on the following schedule:
- Departure from SVDK: 08:10 hrs
- Arrival at Srinagar: 11:20 hrs
- Departure from Srinagar: 12:45 hrs
- Arrival at SVDK: 15:55 hrs
The modern design and high speed of the train are the result of expertise from Chennai’s Integral Coach Factory (ICF).

While the official ticket costs have not yet been disclosed, preliminary estimates indicate that the AC Chair Car will cost approximately INR 1,500-1,600, while the Executive Chair Car will cost between INR 2,200-2,500. This cost guarantees an opulent journey across Kashmir's breathtaking scenery.
