Be it premium stays, mini staycations, drive-cations, or short-haul getaways, Indian travellers made the most of their Holi weekend. According to the data shared by booking aggregators, destinations such as Jaipur, Udaipur, Ujjain, and beach spots like Puducherry, Alibaug, and Mandarmani saw an uptick in tourism. Additionally, drive-cation destinations like Rishikesh, Mussoorie, Mahabaleshwar, and Coorg were in high demand.
‘MADE PLANS IN ADVANCE’Many travellers planned their leaves in advance, taking the Thursday off to extend their trip. “I had booked a staycation in Bir as early as January. I applied for leave on Thursday, so I had three full days to myself,” said Bhawna Singh who works at an edtech company. “The demand for premium stays remained
strong, with the booking share of properties priced above ₹4,500 per night rising compared to last year. Bookings for accommodations in cultural hubs like Jaipur and Udaipur, temple towns such as Amritsar and Varanasi, and beach destinations like Puducherry and Mandarmani saw steady growth. Drive-cation destinations such as Jim Corbett, Mahabaleshwar, and Coorg also experienced high demand,” shared Rajesh Magow, co-founder and group CEO of makemytrip.
20% hike in hotel pricesAccording to an online booking agency, domestic airfares for the Holi weekend ranged between ₹5,400 and ₹5,700, like last year. “Apart from the usual spots, travellers booked flights to Varanasi, Jaipur, Srinagar, and Bagdogra. Hotel prices during the Holi weekend averaged at ₹5,300, which was 20% higher than normal day rates,” shared the Cleartrip spokesperson.
