Quality of life has become a key metric for comparing how countries perform beyond GDP and economic growth. The Quality of Life Index attempts to capture how people actually live, how safe they feel, how far their income stretches, how clean their surroundings are, how accessible healthcare is, and how much time they lose to daily commutes.
The index used here is from Numbeo, which relies on user-contributed data and questionnaires, together with an empirical formula that takes into account various indicators. These range from purchasing power, pollution and housing affordability to cost of living, safety, healthcare quality, traffic commute times and climate. Higher scores denote more favourable conditions for overall living, and lower scores indicate structural or lifestyle stressors.

Oman leads the 2026 Asia Quality of Life Index with a score of 207.6. It scores well for purchasing power and housing affordability, having one of the lowest property price-to-income ratios out of all top-ranked countries. Low pollution, good commute times, and relatively affordable cost of living also helped it in its scoring. Though it doesn’t score the highest in terms of health care, when factors like affordability, safety and daily life comfort is considered, Oman sits at the top of the list.

Japan is second on this list at 185.6. Higher healthcare standards, safety and excellent climate index have contributed to this ranking. Even if property prices and commutes are comparatively worse than in Gulf countries, efficient public services, a solid healthcare system, and developed urban planning ensures an unwavering quality of life for its people.

In third place is Qatar with a score of 182.7, buoyed by very strong purchasing power and safety indicators. But housing is pretty affordable and the commutes aren’t long. Higher pollution levels and a low climate index bring down the overall score for environmental and weather-related issues though.

The next best nation is the United Arab Emirates, which secures this spot with a Quality of Life Index score of 175.5. Not only are safety and a high purchasing power part of normal life, but also state-of-the-art infrastructure. Though quality of healthcare is good, high cost of living and real estate can make overall life here expensive, especially in large centers.

Israel comes in fifth, with a score of 167.7. The country has good quality healthcare services and one of the best climate indices in Asia. But the high cost of living and property price-to-income ratio have remained as constant challenges which affects long-term affordability for its residents.

Saudi Arabia holds 6th position in the Quality of Life Index with 165.3. Its strong purchasing power, low cost of living and manageable commute times all contribute to its ranking. The score is dragged down a little by pollution levels and climate, but healthcare scores are in the mid-range.

Kuwait holds the seventh place with an index of 162.7 and has the highest purchase power from all top 10 Asian countries. Despite this economic power, poorer health scores, heavier pollution and fairly safety measures contribute to an average overall ranking.

Cyprus ranks at number eight with a Quality of Life Index score of 159.6. Its standing is buoyed by a favorable climate index, reasonable commuting times, and relatively low cost of living. Despite this, reduced purchasing power and health scores keep Cyprus from reaching the top.

Singapore places ninth, with a score of 158.1. The city-state boasts of a safe environment with high quality healthcare and low pollution, but its strengths are eclipsed by sky-high costs, from the cost of living to owning a property. Its overall score is also dragged down by the long commutes, which are significant compared to smaller countries.

Taiwan completes the top ten, with a Quality of Life Index of 155.5. It has one of the best healthcare scores in Asia, strong safety and climate indicators. There are housing affordability concerns, as seen in its high property price to income ratio, so the reflation is not in a position to go further.
