From Ayodhya to Rameswaram: Explore These Epic Ramayana Locations That Are Real and Magical

We’ve all heard about the epic tale of Ramayana, a tale of sacrifice, devotion, love, and righteousness since childhood. Across the Indian subcontinent, many of the physical locations exist which are mentioned in the epic and provide a glimpse into the incidents of the tale.

Today, we can also retrace the steps of Lord Ram and go on a journey to visit all of the places that are physical testimonies of his existence and the epic mythological tale:

2/6

Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh

You can also step onto the majestic land of Ayodhya where Lord Ram was born. Visitors are considered to feel a spiritual satisfaction here where the deity once existed. This was also the capital of his kingdom and has numerous sites such as Ram Janmabhoomi or now the Ram Temple. Visitors can also visit the Hanuman Garhi, which is on top of a hill with 76 steps; this is the place where the deity Hanuman had stood guard over Ayodhya, and Sita ki Rasoi, a kitchen which is believed to be the place where Goddess Sita cooked in the royal household. One can also visit Ram ki Paidi or Guptar Ghat on the Sarayu River, where one can take a dip in the holy water.

3/6

Chitrakoot, Madhya Pradesh

This is the place where Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, and Lakshman stayed during their exile for more than 11 years. Visitors should visit these places for a spiritual experience: Kamadgiri Hills, which is considered as the abode of Lord Ram, and parikrama of the hill is also done by pilgrims. Hanuman Dhara is the spring where Lord Hanuman cooled himself after setting Lanka on fire. One can also take a holy dip at the Ram Ghat, which is considered to be the place where Lord Ram performed daily rituals and met Sage Atri. All of us have heard about the emotional reunion of Lord Ram with his brother Bharat while in exile; there is a dedicated temple for this reunion too.

4/6

Kishkindha (Hampi, Karnataka)

This place was an ancient monkey kingdom ruled by Sugriva, where Lord Rama formed alliances with him. Anjanadri Hill, located near Hampi, has a religious significance to it as Lord Hanuman was considered to be born here, and you can also visit it and look at the beautiful view from the hilltop. There is also a Hanuman Temple in Hampi where the sacred union of Lord Ram and Hanuman happened, which visitors can take and take blessings from the idol of Lord Hanuman.

5/6

Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu

Rameswaram is a pilgrimage site on its own as it is home to the Ramanathaswamy Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, and it is also the place where Lord Ram prayed to Lord Shiva. Legends suggest that a bridge (Ram Setu) between India and Sri Lanka was made so that Lord Ram could reach Sri Lanka and bring his wife Sita from the clutches of the evil king Ravan.

6/6

Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh

This place in Uttar Pradesh is where Lord Ram stopped on his exile route to Chitrakoot and has a lot of religious sites related to the epic tale: Triveni Sangam is the place where the deity Ram crossed the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati. Akshay Vat is the ancient banyan tree where Lord Ram had rested. The Nishadraj Ghat is also located here and is the place where the deity Ram was helped to cross the Ganga by boat. You can also visit these places to know more about the epic tale.
