Wellington in New Zealand

Wellington is frequently named as one of the windiest cities in the world. Its position on the southern tip of the North Island of New Zealand puts it right in the line of powerful westerly winds, which are nicknamed the “Roaring Forties.” The Cook Strait, which divides the North and South Islands, is a wind tunnel that funnels the winds.
