10 best Indian destinations to travel in July–August

July and August months have a bad rap when it comes to travel. Blame the unpredictable showers, flooded streets, or because many consider monsoon trips risky. But there is another side to this story and that is some parts of the country come alive in these months. Waterfalls roar, forests glow, and hill stations turning more moody are some of the highlights of this season. So, here are 10 spots that will prove that you can actually do some of the great trips during this time.

2/11

Valley of Flowers, Uttarakhand

It’s one of those places that you should plan a visit at least once in your lifetime. And during this time, July and August, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is in full bloom—think wildflowers, alpine meadows, and clouds doing the slow cha-cha over distant peaks. Perfect for those who want a trek with a side of poetry.

3/11

Coorg, Karnataka

This place in South India is one place that you would want to go again and again. Fondly called the Scotland of India, Coorg turns into a misty masterpiece during the monsoon. Waterfalls spill like chai from a tilted cup, and coffee estates become cozy little hideaways.

4/11

Mawlynnong, Meghalaya

This postcard-perfect village feels like nature’s version of a spa. The living root bridges nearby glisten in the rain, and the mist adds a touch of magic to your selfies.

5/11

Wayanad, Kerala

Wayanad is Kerala’s quieter alternative. Monsoon here means rolling green hills, hidden waterfalls, and roads that feel like they will lead you into a fantasy novel. Bonus: fewer crowds, more peace.

6/11

Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh

While most of India is drenched, Spiti stays cool and crisp. In July–August, the roads open up, and the valley reveals its stark, surreal beauty, think moon-like landscapes, monasteries, and starry skies.

7/11

Cherrapunji, Meghalaya

If you're going to embrace the monsoon, might as well go full throttle. Cherrapunji doesn’t just get rain, it celebrates it. Waterfalls here don’t trickle, they thunder. Don't forget to bring rain gear.

8/11

Alleppey, Kerala

In July and August, the monsoon paints Alleppey’s backwaters with broad, glistening strokes. Glide past paddy fields, coconut groves, and the occasional egret striking a pose.

9/11

Mount Abu, Rajasthan

When the desert state gets its rare brush with rain, Mount Abu transforms. Nakki Lake fills up, the forests around Dilwara Temples glisten, and the air gets just cool enough for long strolls and hot chai.

10/11

Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh

Tawang in July–August is mist-wrapped and magical. While rains are lighter here than the rest of the Northeast, the valleys, waterfalls, and the grand Tawang Monastery look straight out of a Studio Ghibli film.

11/11

Mahabaleshwar, Maharashtra

This Western Ghats gem turns into a lush green paradise during the monsoon. Every roadside turn comes with a new waterfall, and the cloudy sunsets over Arthur’s Seat are worth every splash.
