The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall for Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, and parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph, the downpours have already led to minor waterlogging and traffic disruptions in low-lying areas.The sudden weather shift is attributed to a western disturbance impacting the northern plains, which also triggered fresh snowfall in the Himalayan regions. This influx of moisture promises continued relief from recent warm spells, with cloudy skies and moderate rains forecast over the next few days.Early Tuesday October 7, 2025) morning saw intermittent spells of light to moderate rain across multiple districts. Overnight, temperatures further cooled to 21.8 degrees Celsius by 2:30 am IST, with expectations of even lower readings ahead due to Himalayan snow. As per IMD's forecast, all Delhi districts, along with Noida and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, are expected to receive heavy showers.

Maximum temperatures are expected to hover around 28 degrees Celsius, with minimums near 20 degrees Celsius, offering a welcome break from seasonal norms. The cool spell is likely to intensify as cold winds from the snow-capped Himalayas filter down to the plains.The recent spell of rain brought a noticeable drop in temperatures and temporary relief from the heat across Delhi-NCR. However, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the overall temperature trend is expected to stay slightly above normal. The minimum temperature on Tuesday is likely to hover around the seasonal average, while the maximum may rise by 1–2°C above normal levels.Air quality sees short-lived improvementThe rainfall, coupled with surface winds blowing from the north-northeast at speeds of up to 15 kmph, has helped temporarily improve air quality across the capital region. However, as the showers subside, humidity levels are expected to climb again.The IMD forecasts gradual changes in weather conditions from October 7 to 12. Light to moderate rain with cloudy skies; maximum temperature around 28°C, minimum near 20°C. By October 8, the rain is likely to cease; skies to turn partly cloudy with a slight temperature rise. October 9-12, residents can expect clear skies and stable temperatures with bright sunshine, with maximum temperature even reaching around 33 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperature may edge up to 22 degrees Celsius, with continued clear skies.In Gurugram, Monday’s maximum temperature settled at 28 degrees Celsius — nearly six degrees lower than Sunday, marking one of the season’s sharpest declines. In Noida, the maximum was around 30 degrees Celsius and the minimum at 22 degrees Celsius, with the IMD warning of possible thunderstorms, hailstorms, lightning, and winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph on Tuesday.The same western disturbance that brought rain to Delhi-NCR has also resulted in fresh snowfall in parts of the upper Himalayas. IMD officials noted that minimum temperatures may dip below 20 degrees Celsius from Wednesday as cold northwesterly winds begin sweeping across the northern plains.
