Electronics such as smartphones, laptops, and other electronic devices are cheaper in the United States than in India. This is because of lower import duties and earlier launches of such electronic devices in the United States. For example, if a smartphone costs around 1,00,000 Indian rupees in India, it will cost around 1,35,000 Indian rupees in the United States after converting the local currency. In addition, prices of different models of such electronic devices may vary by 30,000 to 35,000 rupees as per the Instagram reel shared. Laptops and tablets from various brands such as Apple, Samsung, and Dell are also cheaper in the United States than in India.
Branded fashion products like clothing, bags, and cosmetics have a lower price tag in the US than in India. For international brands like Michael Kors, Coach, Nike, and Adidas, there is the issue of import duty, costs of distribution, and costs of retail, which ultimately add to the price of the product in India. For instance as per the Instagram reel shared, the price of a product like a Coach bag, which costs anywhere between 40,000 and 50,000 rupees in India, would cost anywhere between 10,000 to 15,000 rupees in the US market. Cosmetic products are launched first in the US market at a lower price point, but the same product is launched in the Indian market at a higher price point after considering the import duties, marketing costs, and costs of distribution.
The prices of fuel, including petrol and gasoline, have revealed a significant disparity in the two countries. Petrol prices in India are usually in the range of 100 to 110 rupees per litre, while in the US, the price of petrol is around 60 rupees per litre when converted to Indian currency. This is due to the disparity in taxation policies, fuel subsidies, import of crude oil, and production capabilities in the two countries. This has led to lower fuel prices in the US, which in turn has impacted the prices of goods and logistics costs.
Essential grocery products like milk, eggs, meat, and other vital products are less expensive in the United States than they are in India. Supermarkets like Walmart, Aldi, and Costco provide a variety of products that are competitively priced. This is due to the economies of scale and the lower costs of distributing the products, which are more localized when it comes to the supply of essentials. For instance, the prices of milk, cheese, chicken, and paneer would be more competitive in the supermarkets of the United States than they would be in India.
Other domestic appliances, like kitchen appliances and home decor items, have varying prices in these two countries. Vacuum cleaners, microwaves, and other domestic appliances are common in the US market at lower prices. This is due to the bulk procurement of goods, domestic production, and the highly competitive market in the US. However, in the Indian market, these appliances are subject to import duties and shipping costs, which result in their high prices.
