10 most peaceful countries in 2025: Check India’s rank

In times when several parts of the world are going through crisis, be it state-based wars, ongoing conflicts, terrorism or just economic crisis, the 2025 Global Peace Index (GPI), published by the Institute for Economics & Peace, brings us a list of nations that still stand as beacons of peace amid global turmoil. Here are the top 10 most peaceful countries, each showcasing how robust policies, cultural trust, and community spirit foster stability. Also, read on to know about India’s ranking.

2/12

Iceland

Since 2008, Iceland has held the top spot on the Global Peace Index, consistently excelling in safety, security, and low militarisation. Yes, it’s been 18 years for this country, enjoying the top spot, showing the world how to live a peaceful life. Iceland’s small population, and their tight-knit communities, combined with minimal crime rates create an environment where trust is a part of daily life. Local police do not even routinely carry firearms! Also, in Iceland, it’s common to see babies sleeping in prams outside cafes while parents dine inside.

3/12

Ireland

Back in the day, Ireland used to be known for internal strife, now, the country has transformed into the second-most peaceful nation in 2025. Today, Ireland has minimal ongoing conflicts and reduced militarisation. The country’s commitment to military neutrality, and a robust welfare system effectively reduces inequality and fosters a deep sense of stability.

4/12

New Zealand

It’s great to be in New Zealand right now as the country climbed two spots to third place in the 2025 GPI. This change can be attributed to the country’s stringent gun laws and a decline in terrorism-related incidents. New Zealand’s domestic policies are among the strictest in the world for firearms. New Zealand’s rich Māori culture and slower pace of life create a unique community spirit, one that inspires you to take things slow and appreciate the moments as they come.

5/12

Austria

In 2025, Austria slipped one rank to fourth, but that does not mean Austria is no longer a peaceful nation. Austria remains a global leader in safety, with low crime rates and stable governance. The country is backed by strong social policies and a commitment to neutrality, which keep it away from external conflicts. Austria’s consistent investment in public safety and social cohesion, makes it a place where peace is palpable.

6/12

Switzerland

Switzerland’s low crime rates, stable governance, and long-standing commitment to neutrality is why we find it among the top five. The country excels in creating a secure environment through effective policing and social policies. Switzerland’s involvement in international conflicts have always been minimal, and focus mainly lies on fostering trust among citizens. Don’t believe us? Visit the bustling Zurich or serene alpine towns, you will see residents enjoy a high quality of life.

7/12

Singapore

Singapore is the only Asian nation in the top 10. Singapore secured sixth place by balancing significant military spending with exceptional safety and security metrics. Singapore may be small in size but is big when it comes to governance. Its highly efficient governance, low crime rates, and strict legal framework create an environment where residents feel safe at all hours.

8/12

Portugal

In seventh place, we see Portugal, with its low crime rates and minimal involvement in global or domestic conflicts. The country’s warm, welcoming culture helps build a strong sense of community. Both residents and visitors feel secure in cities like Lisbon and Porto. The GPI praises Portugal’s investment in social welfare and its avoidance of militarisation, which contribute to a relaxed, peaceful atmosphere.

9/12

Denmark

Denmark, ranking eighth, is another shining example. The country is a haven of peace thanks to its high welfare standards, low militarisation, and inclusive policies. From Copenhagen’s bike-friendly streets to its rural communities, there is a very strong feeling of safety, peace and calm. A strong social safety net reduces inequality, and fosters trust and cohesion. Denmark’s involvement in conflicts have always been minimal, ensuring that peace is not just a statistic but a way of life.

10/12

Slovenia

Slovenia, finds itself in the ninth-place ranking due to a stable governance, low crime rate, and minimal conflict involvement. Slovenia, tucked between the Alps and the Adriatic, might be a small nation, but it has quietly built a peaceful society through effective policies and a commitment to social harmony. From Ljubljana’s charming streets to its pristine lakes, everywhere you look, you will find a tranquil environment.

11/12

Finland

In 10th position is Finland with its strong safety metrics and minimal conflict involvement. Finland’s culture of trust, supported by transparent governance and robust social systems, ensures residents and visitors feel secure at all times. That’s not all; Finland’s commitment to education and equality further strengthens its peaceful foundation.

12/12

India’s ranking

Now that we are done with the top 10 peaceful countries in the world, it’s time to look into India’s rank. The 2025 Global Peace Index puts India in 115th place. This reflects significant challenges in areas like ongoing conflicts, internal tensions, and safety metrics. It’s no secret that India is known for its vibrant society and cultural richness, but it is also true that when it comes to regional disputes and urban crime, India still has a long way to go.

Peaceful India is on no. 115. How can it be? we are vishwa guru. This is conspiracy of the West and deep state. Modi is Ram and India is Ramrajya and we are living in the Amrit Kaal . Sab bolo Modi baba jindabad.... We want 100% GST and we want 100% income tax. We want 100% ethanol mixing we are vishwa guru. Our PM is a great learned man who knows vedas, rig vedas and all other holy books. He is the incarnation of Ram.
