'Soft Construction with Boiled Beans (Premonition of Civil War)' by Salvador Dali

Salvador Dali's ‘Soft Construction with Boiled Beans’ is a painting of melting and distorted figures, seen as a symbol of the disintegration of society and the internal conflict tearing Spain apart during the Civil War. The use of earthy tones and muted colours contrasts with the chaotic composition, creating an unsettling feeling among viewers. Dali's painting has regularly attracted viewers to look into the psychological and emotional toll of war, going beyond the physical destruction. The melting figures are usually equated to two scenarios, one being the emotional state of people who knew they would lose their loved ones and the other is about the destruction and fear that war brings with it.
