One of the most famous and iconic artists today is undoubtedly Vincent van Gogh. He is the most ‘known’ name in the art world today, not just to art enthusiasts, curators, and more, but also people who take zero interest in art or have any idea about Gogh’s style of painting. But when (most) people think of him, the first painting that comes to mind is ‘Starry Night’. A painting with subdued and sombre colours, ‘The Yellow House’ is more than just a painting of a building. It’s a piece of van Gogh’s personal story.
It is said that this is the building where van Gogh lived and dreamed of creating an artist’s community, and even invited his friend, Paul Gauguin, to stay with him there. The painting shows a cheerful yellow house under a bright blue sky, with a sense of life and movement. Nearby, there are railway bridges, small figures walking, and signs of everyday life.
