Paintings by van Gogh

One of the most famous and iconic artists today is undoubtedly Vincent van Gogh. He is the most ‘known’ name in the art world today, not just to art enthusiasts, curators, and more, but also people who take zero interest in art or have any idea about Gogh’s style of painting. But when (most) people think of him, the first painting that comes to mind is ‘Starry Night’. And while it truly is iconic, van Gogh created over 2,000 artworks, many of which don’t get the appreciation they deserve. And so here we mention 6 more of his paintings that deserve love, recognition, and appreciation.

2/7

The Yellow House

A painting with subdued and sombre colours, ‘The Yellow House’ is more than just a painting of a building. It’s a piece of van Gogh’s personal story.
It is said that this is the building where van Gogh lived and dreamed of creating an artist’s community, and even invited his friend, Paul Gauguin, to stay with him there. The painting shows a cheerful yellow house under a bright blue sky, with a sense of life and movement. Nearby, there are railway bridges, small figures walking, and signs of everyday life.

3/7

Almond Blossom

A beautiful and aesthetic painting, ‘Almond Blossom’ shows nature in its full beauty and joy. It is one of his most delicate paintings and shows a light pink and white almond flower vine, blooming against a soft blue sky, hinting at daytime.
Unlike many of his paintings, which are full of wild strokes and intense colours, this one is calm, tender, and feels like one he created in a sense of perfect peace and joy, not anxiety.

4/7

Fishing Boats on the Beach

Another painting with brightness and beauty is ‘Fishing Boats on the Beach’. The bright colours make it seem like a moving painting, and the artist has beautifully portrayed a sunny day full of energy.
There are lively and colourful boats, in the colours of red, brown, blue, and more, and the river is a mix of blue, yellow, brown, and other colours. There are some boats in the water, floating with the winds, and some on the shore, waiting for their next trip.

5/7

Landscape with Olive Trees

Another painting with van Gogh’s classic swirls and iconic trees is this one. The painting is titled ‘Landscape with Olive Trees’ and shows earthy colours with olive green, yellow, brown, and more, and the mountain behind comes to life with a dark, rich blue colour.
The tree trunks, the ground below, and even the mountains have van Gogh’s swirl styles, and the clouds above with a mix of yellow and white give the perfect backdrop.

6/7

The Potato Eaters

A rather dark painting, devoid of any bright colours, happy scenes, swirls, skies, or clouds, is ‘The Potato Eaters’. It shows a poor family sitting around a table, eating a simple meal of potatoes. Their hands are rough from work, their faces are serious, and the room is dimly lit with a single bulb over their heads and a few candles around the table.
The colours are dark and mysterious, with a mix of olive, black, brown, and the likes, and the painting does a special storytelling.

7/7

At Eternity’s Gate

Another sad van Gogh creation is ‘At Eternity’s Gate’. It shows an old man sitting with his head in his hands, either crying or thinking very deeply about something, and it gives an aura of sorrow, struggle, and the weight of an old life.

The emotion in this painting is raw and powerful, and even though it has bright colours, the sadness screams through with all its might.
