Beautiful Indian architecture

India, a country known for its diversity and beauty, has ancient (and modern) monuments and buildings that can put even the finest tools to shame. Be it the temples made back in the 11th century, or the ones being constructed today, there is a certain divine aura in their pillars, domes, and gates, that just immediately catch a person’s attention.
Some of these temples are so beautifully painted, decorated, carved, and sculpted, that they are visited by people not just for their religious importance but also for the architectural brilliance. Here we mention 6 such temples.

2/7

Akshardham temple, Delhi

One of the most beautiful temples in India that is a modern architectural masterpiece is undoubtedly the Akshardham temple in Delhi. It gives the perfect energy of ancient carvings combined with modern construction techniques, and the facade and interiors are a complete visual delight.
The temple is made from pink sandstone and white marble and has detailed, grand carvings that add to its divine appeal. There are carvings of deities, figures, animals, nature, and much more, and the light and sound show every evening just puts cherry on the cake when it comes to visiting Akshardham.

3/7

Brihadeshwara temple, Tamil Nadu

The Brihadeshwara temple is one of the finest, most aesthetic examples of Dravidian architecture. It was built by Raja Raja Chola back in the 11th century and is still standing stall in all its glory and grandeur.

The Brihadeshwara temple has a majestic height and architecture, be it the ‘stambh’ in the premises, the tower of the temple which is a whopping 216 feet high, and of course the heavy dome that is placed right on top making people wonder how it was carried all the way up back in 11th century.
4/7

Konark temple, Orissa

Another temple known for its beautiful architecture is the Konark Sun temple in Orissa. This temple is a UNESCO world heritage site, and is known for its chariot shape, the huge wheels, and the horses that look like they are carrying the chariot ahead. On the chariot, there are 24 carved stone wheels, seven horses, and other carvings that show symbols of Gods, Goddesses, and nature.

One thing to note about the Konark temple is that the wheels of the chariot are said to act like sundials, helping people determine the time in the past.

5/7

Kandariya Mahadev, Madhya Pradesh

The Kandariya Mahadev temple in Khajuraho is another beautiful, aesthetic, and grand temple that can leave people in awe of its craftsmanship. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the Kandariya Mahadev is about 100 feet tall, and is famous for the beautiful sculptures that grace the temple inside out.

The temple has a series of spires, each a bit smaller in height than the one below, which gives an energy of grandeur and old-world charm.

6/7

Ram Janmabhoomi, Uttar Pradesh

The newly constructed temple in Ayodhya, the Ram Janmbhoomi, is dedicated to Lord Ram and is made on the soil in which Lord Ram was born. The architecture of the temple is simply exquisite and has an aura of majesty and grandeur. There are lofty spires, similar to many other Hindu temples in and around India, and beautiful carvings all through the temple. There is a large sanctum sanctorum (the Garbha griha) where a beautiful idol of Ram Lalla is kept.

Inside the temple are detailed carvings that show Lord Ram’s life, and the different events from it.

Meenakshi Amman, Tamil Nadu

Another beautiful and architecturally brilliant temple from Tamil Nadu is the Meenakshi Amman. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar (forms of Mata Parvati and Lord Shiva).
The temple is built in classic Dravidian architecture style, and the whole complex is spread over 14 acres of land. The most famous part of the temple is its Gopurams, or towers, which are filled with carvings and sculptures of different Gods and symbols of nature. There are pillars so beautifully carved that it makes people pause and remain in awe of the sheer brilliance and precision.
