Winter emerges as India’s preferred season for travel
Winter has emerged as India’s preferred season for travel, according to findings from the 2025 Winter Travel Trends Survey. The study shows that 55 per cent of Indian travellers plan at least one winter trip every year, highlighting how the colder months are increasingly seen as a time to explore, rest and reconnect.
Flexible work schedules, hybrid lifestyles and a growing interest in meaningful experiences are shaping travel choices across the country. Cooler weather, scenic landscapes and better value during the winter months have also encouraged more people to travel during this period.
The survey reveals that winter travel is not limited to holidays alone. Nearly 30 per cent of respondents said they travel to celebrate seasonal festivals, while a similar number travel simply to relax. Around 20 per cent use winter trips to experience cultural or seasonal activities that are unique to this time of year.
Younger travellers are playing a key role in this shift. Gen Z and Millennials account for almost half of all winter travellers, choosing the season for its comfort and calmer pace. Travel also remains a social activity for Indians, with almost half travelling with a partner or spouse, one-third with friends, and close to 30 per cent opting for multi-generational family trips.
Destination preferences show a strong tilt towards warmth, nature and culture. Beach locations such as Goa and Kerala continue to attract travellers, while hill towns like Manali, Mussoorie and Rishikesh remain popular winter escapes. Cities including Udaipur and Jaipur draw those interested in heritage, while places like Varanasi and Vrindavan are seeing growing interest among younger travellers seeking spiritual experiences.
As travel habits continue to evolve, the survey reflects how winter journeys have become an important part of how Indians spend time, connect with others and explore their own country.
