Sonam Kapoor is all set to tie the knot with long-time boyfriend Anand Ahuja in an intimate ceremony. While everything related to wedding is getting all the attention, couple’s decision to go for classy e-invites instead of la-di-da paper invites has been appreciated by everyone. This trend of eco-friendly invites is visible closer home too. We tell you about various greener options that city youngsters are swearing by.…
When it comes to the eco-friendly options, e-invites undoubtedly rule the roost. Newlyweds Neha and Hardik Velinkar chose to send digital invitations. Hardik says, “ E-invites are one of the most convenient options. We chose a passport themed e-invite for our wedding.”
“Besides, creative slide-shows, video invites, interesting mobile apps are also being made to keep the guests informed about the wedding details,” shares an event planner, Shweta Singh.
Commisioner of Police Dr K Venkatesh set an example by choosing seed invites made by artists Shweta Bhattad and Lalit Vikamshi for his daughter Niharika’s wedding. “It is time to do what we believe in. We have to save environment in whatever little way we can. As far as the seed invites are concerned, it was my wife’s idea. I’m happy that many of my relatives want to follow suit,” says he. To this, Shweta adds, “The reason seed invites are getting popular is because they also serve as wedding souvenirs.”
“Even today, most of the hosts are only concerned about getting the best looking cards that fit into their budget. However, I strongly suggest my clients to go for handmade recycled paper invites. It is good to see quite a few warming up to eco-friendly invites. We have made beautiful invites made up of jute and cloth,” shares a well-known card vendor Anula Goenka.
While many consider recycled papers as a cool alternative, some couples are forgoing paper altogether. Pallavi Agrawal chose an innovative way to invite her guests says, “We were against wasting paper and thus we opted for paperless invites. However, in order to create a buzz, we sent our personal messenger who read out the invite like a farmaan at every invitee’s home.”
Another wedding planner Nilay Verma feels it’s a great challenge to ideate eco-friendly options for wedding invites. “The growing demand for eco-friendly invites has compelled us rack our brains and come up with interesting options every time,” says he, adding, “When one of host families told us recently that they want to completely do away with paper, we came up with an idea of a sending silver plated Ganesha idol with haldi-kumkum in a handmade paper box to all the guests; it was appreciated a lot.”
