It is a melodic metaphor for the conflict between India and Pakistan. While the song talks about passionate love, it is symbolising the 'messy' love-hate relationship between the two countries over the years.
This song was also performed recently at Coachella music festival and has touched a milestone of being one of the most popular Pakistani song, internationally, ever.

Sethi was approached by Coke Studio to write a song but backed out of a creative collaboration because the singer was Pakistani.
"So I wanted to write a song that was sort of a flower bomb hurled at nationalism and heteropatriarchy. With all the fun innuendos and this camp energy."
He studied ghazals, a form of lyricism that can be traced to ancient Arabic poetry, and Qawwali, a type of Sufi devotional song. He now resides in New York.
