As the city grapples with COVID outbreak, Bengaluru folks were in for a pleasant surprise when they witnessed a bright halo like ring around the sun for a couple of minutes on Monday morning. This rare optical, atmospheric phenomenon is called the '22 degree circular halo'.
The halo that last for about an hour was first seen at around 10.50 am. Soon social media feeds were flooded with pictues of the rare phenomenon.

The '22 degree circular halo' can also surround a moon, when it is referred to as the moon ring or the winter halo. The event takes place when the rays of the sun or moon get refracted or deflected through the millions of hexagonal ice crystals in the cirrus clouds.
Many celebrities also took to social media to share the news. Actress Sanyukta tweeted, "A rainbow-like halo has encircled the sun in a perfect circle right now.
