Veteran artistes felicitated at glitzy city event
Interdisciplinary artist Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee and his arts collective got together to commemorate the centenary of Sriniketan, the economic miracle envisaged by Rabindranath Tagore. It was the eve of the Bard’s 81st death anniversary and a galaxy of artistes like Aparna Sen, Uma Dasgupta, Mamata Shankar and Bijoylakshmi Burman were felicitated for their contribution to the arts. Pramita Mallick was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
The members presented a tribute programme through narratives and songs sung by Srovonti Bandopadhyay. The latter half of the show featured Sujoy in readings about the history of Sriniketan and Rabindrasangeet by singer Pramita Mallick. Seen at the show were Sohag Sen, Srijato, Debjani Chatterjee, Chaitali Dasgupta, Tara Sengupta and others. “I hope our presentation reflected humanity and the message of sustainability visioned by Tagore so many years ago. The dream of a new India had inspired me to carry on arts,” said Sujoy.
