To Amma with love: Raima’s photogenic tribute to Suchitra

For over seven decades, Suchitra Sen has remained an enigma, a style icon in the history of Bengali cinema. Now, to pay homage to her, Raima Sen, her eldest granddaughter, has recreated some of her iconic looks for a shoot. It has been pointed out over and again by fans that Raima bears a striking resemblance to her grandmother and the shoot simply reiterates the same. The recreation includes Suchitra’s bridal look from Devdas (1955) and her everglamorous party look with winged eyeliner, a bouffant up-do and bold lipshade.
Talking about how he came up with the idea, Prasenjit says, “I admire Suchitra Sen a lot. I’ve grown up watching her films, and have always regretted not getting a chance to do her makeup. Recently, I’ve been trying my hands at photography and given my admiration for her expressions, style quotient and body language I thought of capturing her myriad moods through her granddaughter Raima. The shoot is my humble attempt at recreating some of her timeless looks.”

Stylist Abhisek Roy adds to this. “It didn’t take me much time to agree to this shoot as I knew from its inception that it would turn out to be an iconic one. I’ve always felt Raima would look best as her grandmother as she can carry the aura her grandmother had,” he said.

“I paid a tribute to amma through this photoshoot. She was the epitome of style, grace and elegance to me. I donned some of her personal favourite looks on this occasion” – Raima Sen “I used lights in a certain way to make the pics look cinematic. Apart from the bridal look, we also recreated her glamorous party look” – Prasenjit Biswas “The atmosphere at the photoshoot was surreal. Raima looked exactly like her with the iconic laugh and mole on her chin. We used similar vintage jewellery, a sleevelss v-cut blouse and printed chiffon sari for this look” – Abhisek RoyRaima's makeup, hairstyling & pic: Prasenjit Biswas; Styling: Abhisek Roy
