Durga Puja might be over, its hangover lingers among the Bengali community. Dhunuchi naach — performed especially in the evening of the ninth day (Nabami) of Durga Puja, as well as on the tenth (Dashami) — is the rhythmic dance holding dhunuchis or earthen pots filled with ‘ dhuno ’, coconut husk, and camphor. It is a fragrant offering to the goddess that blends devotion with celebration.

Accompanied by the pulsating beats of dhaak , dhunuchi naach isn’t just a ritual but an emotional and cultural expression. Women decked up in traditional red-andwhite saris with alta (red liquid dye) on their hands and feet to bid Maa Durga a farewell is a reminder that the countdown for next year’s pujo has already begun.
