The best of the Diwali bazaars of Bhopal!

The of lights brings in a lot of hues and happiness in our lives. Diwali calls for not just parties and celebrations, but a lot of shopping too, be it jewellery, utensils, dresses or rangoli! The markets of – big and small – are all stocked up with the latest festive items, from diyas and lanterns, to LED and Chinese lights, besides dry fruits and trendy clothing, and people are flocking to them in huge numbers to get their fill.

“This year, we started our with some decorative items, and I am surprised to see the variety that has flooded the market. There’s something to suit everyone’s budget and needs,” said student Ashi Dubey. Homemaker Shubhangi Dubey, who was buying firecrackers for her ten-year-old son, told us, “My family doesn’t support burning crackers, so we only buy one or two small boxes for our kids. I bought rangoli kits for myself, and can’t wait to get started.” Sandhya Khare, who was buying jewellery along with her husband, says, “We only have time to shop after office, and so have done most of our shopping online. Now, we are only left with the last-minute knick-knacks. We will be ordering the sweets from home as well, and will get it delivered on Diwali.”

The sweet shops were filled with hampers of various shapes and sizes, ranging from ₹50 - 12,000 in price. One of the shopkeepers Dharmendra Dang told us, “This year, we an exclusive range of signature sweets which we have made using international dry fruits. For example, we have sweets made out of Pishori pista and Gurbandi nuts, which have been imported from neighbouring countries.”

Decorative items seller Sonu Raikwar’s shop has items specially brought in from Ahmedabad. “We get all the trending items from there, and at a reasonable rate too. We have Chinese lamps and LED swastikas, which are very much in demand this year.”Mankesh Prajapati, who was selling diyas along with his wife, said, “Though the market was down a few days ago, people are now pouring in day and night to finish all their shopping. I hope that my business does well this year, taaki hamaari bhi Diwali happy ho jaye!”
