Swap traditional meets for an art-powered get-together
Tired of the same old cafe meet-ups with friends? Try indulging in some art for an immersive bonding experience, which may turn out to be fun for some or a cathartic escape for others.
Whether it is a canvas painting session for a monthly catch-up with friends or a tote bag painting session at a birthday party, or just doodling together at a home or in a garden, add colour and creativity to your get-togethers.
‘Art-centric parties are fun and relaxing’
Poulomi Bose, an artist & art experience curator, says, “For many, art comes with the expectation of perfection and a rigid idea of what defines good art. Art-led parties focus on the joy of creating, free from the pressure of perfection. Such sessions foster mindfulness.”
Sanchi Jain, an art educator, who recently organised a paint party at a wedding, says, “Unlike traditional gatherings, art parties offer an interactive and immersive experience where people come together to create, express and connect. These art parties also promote mindfulness.”
However, art therapist Shikha Gupta emphasises that art parties should not be mistaken for art therapy. “Art therapy is process-oriented and addresses deeper emotional needs,” she says.
Shreya Saxena, who often hosts bad art parties along with art therapist Shaswatee Behera, shares, “I wanted a space to express myself and enjoy a slow day. We started monthly meet-ups, inviting friends from different circles, and they soon became friends too. It became a space where we could create without judgement and enjoy ourselves.”
“People like to experiment with different art mediums, like canvas painting, texture art, fluid art, knife painting. For birthday parties, participants like to go for tote bag painting, for kitty parties, people often opt for painting monograms, fridge magnets, clocks etc, that serve as memories too,” says Vinisha. Many companies are incorporating sip ‘n paint sessions into team bonding events.
