Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee and Paramita Saha share an artistic dialogue at a city event
Interdisciplinary artiste Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee and contemporary dancer Paramita Saha recently celebrated professional milestones at a city jazz club. The event, titled 20:25, denoted the two decades Sujoy & Paramita have spent in art (20 years for Sujoy and 25 years for Paramita). The event unfolded over an artistic dialogue, where the artistes spoke about their journey, the challenges they had to overcome, how the Kolkata audience has evolved over the years and the projects they are working on currently. An eclectic audience witnessed an evening that merged their common quest for identity.
“My newly launched art platform has a bustling studio space in Salt Lake, with lots of young people. We work on Fridays and host open classes for anybody who wants to join us,” shares Paramita talking about the perks of having a like-minded community that has evolved in the city over the years. Sujoy, who has recently directed a silent short film named Home, based on a poem by Arundhati Subramaniam, screened it during the course of the evening. When quizzed by Paramita, on the online trolls he encounters on a daily basis, he chirped “(It happens) Because I am beautiful”. He said, “Unless the outlook changes in the field of arts, nothing will change for the better”. He believes there has to be representation in different forms as a particular section of the arts still subtly discriminate against artistes based on their colour, creed and sexuality,” Sujoy added.
The event crowned off with Sujoy's rendition of with a contemporary movement by Paramita. Seen among the audience were actor Chaiti Ghoshal with her son Amartya, activist Bappaditya Mukhopadhyay and his partner Anuprabha, standup comedian Anuvab Pal, filmmakers Aritra Sen and Alexander Harvey and many others.
