Spreading care, through random acts of kindness

Spreading care, through random acts of kindness
The Bangalore based group has been helping people across the country

Amidst the outbreak of coronavirus and viral fake news, there are some who have been spreading a different kind of virus – that of kindness. When Bengaluru based digital marketing professional Mahita Nagraj received calls from friends in US and UK to help out their elderly parents in the city, she thought of putting out a post on Facebook for those who may need help or assistance during these times.

After an overwhelming response of not just people seeking help but volunteering to do so, Caremongers India facebook page was born. “Since March 17 to now we grew by leaps and bounds. In under 20 days, we managed to create a network of 30000 plus volunteers who are ready to help the vulnerable population in whatever way they can” she shares.
The helpline number put out by the page received about 900 calls a day and close to 2000 texts on Whatsapp when the lockdown was announced. "Since then, we have established a system in place where immediate requirments are put out on the page itself so that there is immediate help by volunteers in the requesters' area itself" she shares. Now they have also designed a system where weekly support is provided to those who are in the susceptible age group and register for the same.
“People also send me messages about how warm and nice they feel on reading up about this support group. The best thing is, this kindness bug has now gone global, and we are spreading caremongering even in countries like UK, Netherlands, HongKong, Dubai, Muscat etc.” adds Mahita proudly.
