Sports unites countries: Nick low at the UK-India sports calendar launch
In collaboration with Calcutta Sports Journalists’ Club, the British Deputy High Commission in Kolkata launched the UK- India sports calendar on January 30. The calendar was launched by Christina Scott, British Deputy High Commissioner to India, Nick Low, British Deputy High Commissioner to east and North-east India, table tennis player Poulomi Ghatak and Prabir Roy Chowdhury, advisor, Calcutta Sports Journalists’ Club. The calendar features photographs of UK-India sporting events captured by Kolkata's sports journalists. “The UK has a global sporting reputation – one that is underpinned by the presence of several huge sports brands,” said Christina Scott, who is visiting the City of Joy for the first time.Sending out a message of unity and strength, Nick Low said, “Whether it’s England, India and Wales contesting the Hockey World Cup in Odisha, Cheteshwar Pujara scoring runs in England and Jos Buttler scoring runs in India, or Manchester United’s recent roadshow in Kolkata, sports unite us.” He further reflected on how sports have been at the heart of the two countries since the nineteenth century. “Those ties are stronger than ever now and we celebrate them with this UK-India sports Calendar,” he added.
