Musician Somdatta’s song on domestic violence wins multiple international awards

Interdisciplinary artiste Somdatta has recently released a music track that sheds light on trauma caused from domestic violence and abuse. The track is an addition to her album Mazi, released earlier this year. The song, We Rise, also focuses on resilience that emerges from suffering.
Composed and arranged by Sarod exponent Prattyush Banerjee, the song combines Bengali and Sanskrit lyrics to communicate its message. The Sanskrit lyrics have been written by Neha Krishna Kumar and the Bengali lyrics have been penned by Sugata Guha. The production not only approaches vocal expressions due to trauma but also movement that often helps us express the unspoken suffering in our bodies.

The music video features Rebecca Brodowski, Darci Erickson and Somdatta herself. Rebecca and Somdatta have worked together in creating movements that resonate with the subject of trauma experienced due to domestic violence.
The song has recently won the Global Music Awards in the category of female vocalist and music video amongst the many other awards including the Cannes World Film Festival and Round the Globe film and music festival.
