Ski season is luxury’s new playground
From Alpine villages to ski-in resorts, luxury labels are rethinking where and how they meet their customers. Winter holiday destinations are emerging as fashion hotspots, with brands opening pop-ups and launching focused winter edits for affluent travellers.
Beyond retail, winter capsule collections are helping luxury houses blend fashion, sport, and experience in high-altitude settings. By placing products on the slopes and linking them to global sporting moments, brands are finding immersive ways to showcase their style while aligning with travel, leisure, and seasonal lifestyles.
In the last week of January, alongside its runway show, Moncler Grenoble, known for high-performance luxury ski and mountain wear, opened its second global store and first US flagship in Aspen, following its 2023 debut in St Moritz. The move signals how winter destinations are increasingly becoming central to luxury brands’ retail strategies.
Winter travel is emerging as fashion’s most polished backdrop. Tiffany & Co. recently unveiled a seasonal pop-up in Gstaad, offering a tightly curated selection of fine jewellery and watches. Conceived as an intimate, experience-led space rather than a traditional store, the pop-up caters to winter travellers seeking discretion, craftsmanship, and personalised engagement.
In China, Burberry brought a festive lens to the slopes of Chongli with a limited-time pop-up celebrating its Year of the Horse Lunar New Year collection. The offering blends alpine-ready outerwear with gifting-focused accessories, seamlessly connecting winter travel, celebration, and resort dressing.
Italy’s Cortina d’Ampezzo is also cementing its status as a winter luxury hub. Prada and Loro Piana have opened new boutiques, while Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Swatch have refreshed existing spaces. Meanwhile, Net-a-Porter’s Destination: Ski activation at One&Only Moonlight Basin highlights how luxury retail is becoming more immersive, meeting customers exactly where they holiday.
From pop-up stores on snowy slopes to winter capsule launches, sport has become one of luxury fashion’s most visible stages. A few months ago, Gucci unveiled Gucci Altitude, its first luxury winter sportswear line, fronted by brand ambassador and tennis star Jannik Sinner. The collection blends technical ski-wear with fashion-led details, spanning statement jackets, sleek ski suits, and branded snowboards. It is designed primarily for ski slopes, rather than purely après-ski fashion worn for lounging, dining, and socialising after skiing.
Beyond apparel, EA7 Armani has expanded into performance-driven winter eyewear, underscoring how function is now filtered through a luxury lens. Chanel continues to target winter travellers with its Coco Neige collection, mixing refined silhouettes with relaxed après-ski style through quilted layers, cosy knits, and winter-ready accessories.
Further, Balenciaga joined the skiwear race in 2025, launching its first-ever highly technical skiwear line that extends beyond clothing to include skis, snowboards, and performance equipment.
Louis Vuitton, under creative director Pharrell Williams, brought winter and alpine style into its Fall/Winter 2026 menswear collection. The runway featured padded coats and cold-weather layers, while ski-specific pieces were released separately as a seasonal capsule.
Further, Dior’s DiorAlps collection is designed for winter holidays, offering sporty yet stylish pieces for both skiing and après-ski. The range also updates classic Dior bags in soft suede and shearling, alongside winter-ready outfits in cool, muted colours.
