Kolkata to host a cultural evening to celebrate 50 years of Haimanti Sukla

To commemorate the 50-year career of veteran singer Haimanti Sukla, a city-based non-profit organisation, Debashree Foundation, has organised a cultural evening this month dedicated to honour the Hindustani classical singer.

The event will feature a musical evening showcasing performances by Haimanti Sukla herself, alongside Professor Rajyasree Ghosh. They will be accompanied by an ensemble of musicians, Rishi Kumar Chattopadhyay and Soumen Sarkar on tabla, Dipankar Bhaskar and Pulak Sarkar on keyboard, Soumyajit Ghosh on flute, Sanjeevan Acharya on percussion, and Tathagata Mishra on esraj.

Haimanti Sukla, celebrated for her versatility in both classical and semi-classical music genres, excels in a wide range of styles including renditions khayal, thumri, ghazal, dadra, chaiti, as well as Bengali film and non-film songs. Her profound musical journey began under the guidance of her father, Pandit Harihar Sukla, and further by the guidance of musician, Pandit Chinmay Lahiri. Throughout her career, she has lent her voice to compositions by legendary music directors such as Hemanta Mukherjee, Manna Dey, Salil Chowdhury, and Naushad, among others.
