I’m getting married on Jan 16, but haven’t seen my fiancée till date
Speaking to him, it is difficult to believe that a celebrated sportsman can be so simple in this day and age. But then, Olympic medal winner Yogeshwar Dutt, is a rare exception. In a telephonic, the wrestler makes some interesting revelations about his fiancée and his impending marriage …
‘Her name is Sheetal’
Not one to beat around the bush, Yogeshwar readily admits that he is getting married soon and adds: “It’s an arranged marriage and my fiancee’s name is Sheetal Sharma; she is 24 and pursuing higher studies. Her father and my dad were friends and I’m getting married on January 16, but I haven’t seen my fiancée till date.” Just as you wonder aloud as to how is it possible in these forward times, the grappler replies in his inimitable simplistic manner: “My mother, brother and bhabhi had gone to see her before Rio Olympics; unhone hi rishta pukka kiya. In our family, a girl can’t come to our place before marriage, so I haven’t got a chance to see her. In fact, I haven’t spoken to her till date on phone too. This may sound strange to many, but this is how things are done in our village.”
‘My mother is my luck factor’
Rag him a bit about his fiancee Sheetal being his lady luck (after all, it is after her entry in his life that his bronze medal is likely to be upgraded to a silver and Yogeshwar merely says: “It is my mother who is my luck factor. She is the one who has chosen Sheetal for me.” Goad him further and ask him what are the qualities that he looks forward to in his future wife and he replies rather coyly: “I just want my wife to take care of my mother and understand me. I have no other expectation.”
Wedding in Delhi
When asked about the details of the wedding, the groom-to-be shares: “The wedding will be celebrated in Delhi, but some of the ceremonies will also be solemnised at Sonepat (where Sheetal’s family stays) and my native village Bhainswal Kalan.”
