Taste Atlas, an immersive travel guide developed by Matija Babic for traditional food that compiles original recipes, food critic reviews, and research articles about popular ingredients and meals, recently compiled a list of the 50 "Best Sandwiches in the World".
Turkey's Tombik is ranked top on the list. It's a style of döner kebab that's quite common in Turkey, where the shredded meat is placed into a flatbread with a bun shape (pide ekmek). The Butifarra from Peru comes next, and the Sandwich de lomo from Argentina comes in third.
The website describes Vada Pav as "This well-known street snack is thought to have been invented by Ashok Vaidya, a street vendor who operated close to the Dadar train station in the 1960s and 1970s. He considered a solution to feed the ravenous employees and came to the conclusion that the ideal dish should be transportable, reasonably priced, and simple to make. Vada pav was invented by Ashok, and its popularity soared."
