From ‘Ikigai’ to tempura: Kolkata gets a taste of Japanese food & culture
The Consul-General of Japan in Kolkata hosted a reception to commemorate the birth of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan on March 2.
In the presence of chief guest Barun Kumar Ray, additional chief secretary, labour department, Government of West Bengal and other dignitaries, the Consul General of Japan in Kolkata, Nakagawa Koichi reflected upon the strong bilateral ties shared between India and Japan. “We are starting a fresh decade with many plans in the pipeline. Not just politically, we also look forward to strengthening social, cultural, and economic ties between the two nations,” he said.
While addressing the audience, the chief guest, Barun Kumar Ray, expressed how each nation should strive to follow the ‘Ikigai’ way of living and said, “The concept of ikigai encapsulates the Japanese way of life which underlines the industriousness of the people, the attention to detail, the discipline, punctuality and cleanliness. These are some traits that make a nation great, and all nations should strive to emulate it.”
The reception also hosted an exhibit where Japanese companies got a chance to display their wares. Consul General of Japan in Kolkata Nakagawa Koichi raised a toast to the occasion before ushering in the guests for the grand reception which featured some lip-smacking treats like authentic sushi, Udon noodles, tempura etc
