Demonstration of solidarity with Iran and Ukraine on the red carpet at the Berlinale Palast
The Berlin Film Festival is set to organise separate demonstrations on the Berlinale Palast red carpet in solidarity with the people of Iran and Ukraine, during the festival festival.
A statement read,"The Berlinale staunchly condemns Russia’s ongoing war of aggression, which violates international law, and expresses its solidarity with the people in Ukraine and all those who are campaigning against this war. The festival also stands with the courageous protesters in Iran as they defend themselves against a violent, undemocratic regime. The film selection and various events - in part with cooperation partners - will focus on Iran and Ukraine."
On February 18, a demonstration of solidarity with Iran will take place at the Palast. Representatives of various film teams, jury members, and filmmakers will attend the demonstration. Besides, a panel discussion on ‘The Role of Cinema and the Arts in the Iranian Revolution’ at the Hebbel am Ufer venue will also be organised.
On February 24, a demonstration of solidarity with Ukraine will take place at the Berlinale Palast. Attendees will include Oleksii Makeiev, Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, European Film Market (EFM) delegations and others.
Earlier, the organisers said in a statement,"Film festivals are places that strengthen freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and peaceful dialogue. With the ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine, and the courageous protests in Iran, as well as in many other regions of the world, the Berlinale stands in 2023 even more firmly for these democratic values, and remembers victims of war, destruction and oppression all over the world."
The 73rd Berlinale is from February 16-26.
