Deepti Naval made an appearance at a book launch in Kolkata

Renowned actress Deepti Naval was in the city recently to launch Indian poet Ananya Chatterjee’s poetry collection. The book launch was followed by a panel discussion moderated by poet Sunil Bhandari at the Harrington Street Arts Centre. A collection of 60 poems, the compilation throws light on the barefoot acts that bruise, bleed and heal us.

While reflecting upon the collection, Deepti Naval shared that it was the originality of expression and the contemporary style of writing that drew her towards Ananya’s poems. “Ananya’s usage of imagery is very unconventional and made me pause and ponder upon it,” she added.

The poet, who was also present at the occasion, spoke about how for her, poetry is the way she looks at life. “A feeling of connectedness paradoxically interspersed with a layer of detachment – that is, in a nutshell, my state of consciousness. My writings, including the poems in ‘Barefoot on Splintered Glass’ bear evidence of that. Like the world outside us, the world within us has its own share of seasons with each season having its highs and lows. Poetry is the way I look at life,” said Ananya Chatterjee.
