“Music is apassion, and it was my wish to get international artists to India,” saysSujit, who studied concert surveys and it’s responses by Indian andworldwide audiences, studies on gate collection and sponsors before zeroing inon the Canadian rockstar.
“In the age bracket of 10 to 60 yearolds, one name kept on recurring, which was of – Bryan Adams. I myselfasked many youngsters who they wanted to see perform live, on my visits to mallsand found this name coming back again and again. Kids, middle aged and elderpeople, all zeroed in on him,” says Sujit.
Why Delhi, weasked, considering that most sponsors and musicians shy away when it comes toperforming in Delhi? Laughs Sujit, “A lot of people advised me againstchoosing Delhi as a venue for my first venture into entertainment. But if youlook closely Delhi is the hub of Indian corporates. Just look at the number ofIT, financial, media houses. And the infrastructure is just brilliant. Solooking at that angle, I thought that even though there are problems, there is amarket as well. So we can conquer any problem with the largemarket.”
Then why the hesitation that most sponsors andorganisers feel? “The problem is that in Delhi there is a lot ofbureaucracy involved, you have to go door-to-door and there is a politicalangle, so it is tough to get concerts in Delhi.
Added to that the entertainmenttax is too high,” says Sujit.
It’s not only about musicbut a good cause as well, as 20% of the proceedings from the concert will go toMana Shetty’s NGO – Save The Children. “Suniel is a closefriend of mine and I have been admiring his work for a long time. They educate, provide healthcare to 300 special children in Mumbai, and many others acrosscities in India.”
So will we see Suniel Shetty and Manaenjoying the concert? “Yes! Not only them, but many other names fromBollywood and the sports fraternity will be present at the VVIP lounge.”
Any more concerts after Bryan Adams? “Definitely! We are zeroing in on some names, but cannot confirm now.” A sneak peek please? “Coldplay,
Linkin Park, Akon, Enrique, Shakira... Let’s see.”
