Beats of FIFA

You are late if you don’t know the songs buzzing about football fans. But what if it had to be an Indian song played out as crowds did the Mexican wave while two teams fought as if for life.

You are late if you don’t know the songs buzzing about football fans.
Waka Waka (This time for Africa) and Wavin’ Flag, this year’s FIFA World Cup’s official songs are all that you need — easy, catchy beat and stadium-friendly. But what if it had to be an Indian song played out as crowds did the Mexican wave while two teams fought as if for life. City celebs make their pick
Raghu Dixit, folk singer
I would pick the song Chale Chalo from Lagaan.
1x1 polls
It’s an inspiring number with a sense of team spirit in it. It talks of fighting the odds, of eliminating the opposition with tactics and so makes an apt number.
Carlton Braganza, singer and restaurateur
That would be Jai Ho. It’s celebratory song and that’s what you need at a game of football, something that relishes a victory.
Priya Ganapathy, writer and voice-artiste
Dhan Te Nan from Kaminey would be fabulous. But I am also going to pick this 1980s’ song Hip Hip Hurray Ho because it’s what Indian football is like. Coming back to Dhan Te Nan, the song has a thumping melody, it has excitement, energy and raw appeal. Then again the lyrics of Dhan Te Nan are so apt. It’s a game of power, fame, luck and money after all.

Chetan, actor I remember this song from Yuva Dhakka Laga Bukka. When I first heard it, it made me stand up and join in. I think it fits here too.
Anita Kholay, rallyist I would pick two. Jai Ho because it has that tempo to it and Chak De because of the fervour in the song and because it talks of winning
