When Team Delhi’s Australian cricket player Aaron Finch was in Delhi recently, interacting with the city’s youngsters, he spoke a few Hindi words and surprised the audience. When asked if being in the company of Indian players had made him familiar with the language, he said, “Yes. I know ‘chalo chalo’ and ‘jaldi karo’.” When the crowd asked for more, he said, “Unmukt and Manpreet (Team Delhi co-players) taught me some more, but they are all bad words, so I can’t say them here.
Next time, I shall learn more and tell you,” and laughed again with his teammates.
In fact, it seems many foreign players in
IPL have been getting lessons in ‘bad words’. Team Jaipur’s
Brad Hodge had also said, “I now speak naughty words. I don’t know a lot (of Hindi) but I should know it now. We spend a lot of time in India anyway so I think we should.”
