A runway show spotlighting fashion for the differently-abled
The third season of Walk With a difference (WWAD) culminated with a finale on November 19, at a city auditorium. The social initiative, Walk With a Difference (WWAD) is aimed at discovering differently-abled talents in the field of fashion, art, music, dance and sports, through social events and exhibitions. The third season kicked off with auditions on November 12 and saw 30 contestants being short-listed by a panel of celebrity judges.
The contestants had to go through an intense capacity-building process where professionals from Delhi and Kolkata helped them prepare for the finale. During the finale, finalists walked for designers who create fashion for the differently-abled, with a focus on adaptability, accessibility and mobility. WWAD has been instrumental in initiating important conversations around fashion and art for the differently-abled. Renowned percussionists Tanmoy Bose along with Sangram Mukherjee performed at the occasion.
Rakesh Dhasmana, the convenor of the event, shared, "WWAD is an attempt to bridge the fashion-disability paradox. Since fashion as an industry grabs a lot of attention in society, the inclusion of persons with disabilities (PwDs) in such a prominent industry will change society for the better.”
