A North Kolkata Puja committee has announced menstrual hygiene the theme for this year

A North Kolkata Durga Puja committee named Pathurighata Pancher Pally announced menstrual hygiene as the theme of this year’s Durga puja pandal. Marking the 84^th year of its inception, the banner for the puja committee was launched on International Menstrual Hygiene day 2023, where the theme for this year, ‘Ritumati’ was also announced.
Reflecting upon the need to take menstrual hygiene seriously, Ellora Saha, the secretary of the puja committee said, “There is no better way to get rid of a problem than addressing it and it is about time that we stop looking at menstruation as a taboo, there is an urgent need to spread awareness about menstrual hygiene and we’ll mark this day with distribution of sanitary napkins among women.” She further said, “Menstruation is a normal biological process and doesn’t require to be kept under some veil, menstrual hygiene is being compromised because people don’t want to discuss about periods, even when buying sanitary pads, many people still prefer writing the names on paper and asking for it, we have to unlearn these things.”
Singer Siddharth Ray also known as Sidhu will create the theme music for the Durga Puja Pandal.Besides being a singer he also holds an MBBS degree.
