The latest in the list of famous names enamoured by Buddhism and Dharamshala (think Pierce Brosnan, Steven Seagal, Harrison Ford, Richard Gere) is cricketer Adam Gilchrist. Gilly, who recently met His Holiness The
Dalai Lama at Tsuglakhang Temple in McLeodganj, said, “It turned out to be a relaxing session and I wish to come here again.” Sources hinted that Gilly intends to develop a deeper understanding of Buddhism, but not espouse the Tibetan cause.
This is not Gilly’s first time in Dharamshala - he was there in 2010 (for IPL 3) when he was captaining the Deccan Chargers. This Aussie’s been charmed by Buddhist teachings and is planning to visit The Dalai Lama at least once a year. “I feel honoured to have met the great personage.
Each word he uttered positively impacted my mind and there’s been a change in my perception,” Gilly said. The cricketer did not say when he’s planning his next trip, just “soon.”
Speculation is rife about Gilly wanting to bow off the cricketing field. Though the 42-year-old denies it, sources say he asked for help from a local who’ll help him find a small home in the hills in Dharamshala.
