A conclave geared towards nurturing Indo-Pacific culture and connectivity

US Consulate General Kolkata and a think tank named Asian Confluence recently hosted a two-day Indo-pacific conclave titled ‘Reimagine and Reconnect: Indo-Pacific Synergies through the lens of culture.’

Focussing on themes like trade and connectivity, ecology and migration and peacebuilding, the conclave aimed towards initiating policy discussions through culture, which would consequently promote a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific relationship.

The two-day conclave saw participation from 40 speakers and hosted around 75 artistes, performers, and musicians from more than ten countries including the US, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, Philippines, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, and India

Emphasising the need for a free and interconnected Indo-Pacific region, Consul General Melinda Pavek said, “The United States is a proud Indo-Pacific nation. We have maintained and continue to strengthen our long-term commitment to an Indo-Pacific region that is free, open, interconnected, prosperous, resilient, and secure. Our commitment is to every corner of the region, from Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia to South Asia, Oceania, and the Pacific Islands. The Indo-Pacific of today enjoys unprecedented economic ties and represents the world’s biggest producers of goods and largest trade markets.”

The conclave also witnessed a performance on the sounds and rhythms of the Indo-Pacific by renowned percussionist Pt. Tanmoy Bose and his team. The performance was followed by a discussion on the ‘Cultural Threads of Indo-Pacific’. Besides the various consul generals of Kolkata, high-ranking officials and ambassadors also graced the occasion.
