Here's what Princess Diana got to keep after her divorce

Princess Diana's wedding was one of the most celebrated occasions in the history of British Royalty. People rejoiced at the ceremonial event and blessed the two in their own ways. But, little did anyone know at that time that after more than a decade, the seemingly-perfect royal marriage would come to an end and the royal couple would go separate ways. Needless to say, what seemed like a fairytale romance initially, ended in the most tragic way possible. After their official split in 1996, Prince Charles maintained his position as the heir to the throne. While Princess Diana did lose some of her royal benefits, she also got to keep some of them too.

Here are 7 things Princess Diana was allowed to keep after her divorce.

2/8

Her title

Following her divorce with Prince Charles, he sure demanded that she be deprived of her 'Her Royal Highness' (HRH) title, but eventually it was decided that although she wouldn't possess the HRH title anymore, she would still be called Diana, Princess of Wales.

3/8

Her Kensington Palace home

Although Princess Diana lost her ownership to the Kensington Palace after the divorce, she still got to keep a part of it, which was called Apartment 8 and 9. However do not be mistaken by the sound of it. It was a large three level property, of which an entire floor served as a nursery for her sons.

4/8

A whopping income

Officially, there was nothing confirmed by the Palace authorities, however, Princess Diana allegedly received a whopping $22 million and an extra $600,000 per year as her divorce settlement.

5/8

An office space

While Princess Diana was asked to clear out her desk at the St. James’s Palace, which would have been next to her ex-husband’s workspace, she got her own new office space at the Kensington Palace where she lived.

6/8

The private jets

Flying commercial or even business class was not an option for Princess Diana. Even after the separation, Diana retained her access to the private royal jets, just like other members of the royal family.

7/8

Her engagement ring

Except for the Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara that Queen Elizabeth gave her as a wedding present, Princess Diana got to keep all the jewellery she received on her wedding - even her engagement ring.

8/8

The custody of her sons

Besides all the material wealth, what was most important to Princess Diana was that she got the joint custody of her two sons, William and Harry. Although they spent much of their time at boarding schools, she made sure that they got to have some quality time together as and when they were around.
