What is Vipassana?

Vipassana Kriya is a famous ritual that asks people to shut off their mental chatter and observe things in peace. From the sensations in their fingers to the movements of their neck or even the rhythms that form in their minds, Vipassana is about feeling them with complete attention but not reacting to them at all. Vipassana is usually done for 10 days, sometimes more, and in these 10 days people are asked to live in an isolated environment, away from social media or constant phone calls, and most days are spent in meditation, silence, and quiet.

2/5

The Vipassana rules

Going through 10 days of Vipassana is no easy task, especially because of the complete isolation from the outside world it comes with, and the rules that are in place. The ancient rules of Vipassana has things like not killing any beings, not maintaining any sexual relations, not stealing or telling lies, and not being intoxicated. And these are the 5 very basic rules anyone who signs up for Vipassana kriya has to follow. Along with these, people are also expected to maintain silence, not use any phones or electronic communications, and have a schedule for meditation sessions and rest periods.

3/5

How Vipassana helps people

Vipassana is not achievable by many. The dedication and concentration that is needed is difficult for people to attain, and in a world and time where all we care about is notifications, likes, and being constantly in touch, staying away from the phones and digital media helps people calm down over the days. Vipassana kriya gives people both mental clarity and emotional balance, and by observing their body functions and sensations people better realise their thoughts, emotions, and movements.

Vipassana and a connection with divine

Practicing Vipassana kriya also has mental and spiritual benefits. How? Well, the isolation from the digital world and the state of silence you are in helps reduce the mental chatter, stress, the constant anxiety of deadlines, and more. Plus, through consistent practice people can be more in sync with their body and their rhythms. This helps be more emotionally at peace, self-aware, and have a deeper connection with your mind. When you stay in silence and look within, thinking of all that you did and could have done, it helps bring our soul closer to the divine path.

5/5

How does Vipassana benefit the body?

To many, Vipassana does wonders to the mind and body. While the silence and isolation helps the mind calm down, the extra activities, usually physical exercise or work, people do help them stay in shape, lower their blood pressure woes, and when the Sattvik foods enter their system for 10 days straight, lightly spiced and wholesome in qualities, it gives their body the perfect detox from ultra-processed junk.
