As per Shiva Purana, Aak is offered to Lord Shiva and is considered highly meritorious. It is known to immediately please Lord Shiva. These flowers symbolise surrendering ego and impurities. As it grows in harsh conditions, it represents detachment, a quality of lord shiva embodies as the ultimate ascetic (vairagi). Offering this flower pleases him and is belived to bring peace and destruction of negative karmas. According to the ‘Shiva Purana’, the madar flower, which is also known as the crown flower, is used to make garlands for worshiping or puja for its ornamental, brilliant color and dainty appearance.
